For months before the historic 2020 Election, OHPI was in the field monitoring Arizona likely voters on their opinions. We asked questions ranging from whom they supported for the Arizona Senate seat to President Trump’s approval rating, with plenty of timely questions thrown in for good measure – COVID, top issues, feelings about Arizona’s general direction, etc. Titled the Arizona Public Opinion Pulse, or AZPOP, the press releases, social media posts, and the dashboard we offered quickly caught the interest of the local, regional, and national media, as well as anyone interested in monitoring the opinions of Arizonans. As many races grew more controversial and Arizona became recognized for its newly designated battleground status, the AZPOP polls gained ground as a strong indicator of voter behavior.
Ultimately, OHPI’s predictions became facts as we took a victory lap on behalf of our accuracy during a year when many polls missed the mark.
This month, AZPOP is returning. It will focus on relevant issues, for example, the controversy inside the Arizona Republican party, what characteristics Arizonans want in a candidate, the list of likely suspects expected to throw their hats in the ring for the 2022 AZ Governor’s race, etc. These issues, and more, remind us that in a democracy, there is always another election.
Our first poll of 2021 will be out next week. Don’t miss out. Follow our Twitter feed, sign up for our newsletters, and keep an ear tuned to the news.
Arizonans have something to say, and AZPOP is listening.
